Subject: Inquiry about your position on labeling genetically engineered foods

I understand that the non-profit organization, The Campaign, (www.thecampaign.org) recently sent you a letter by Express Mail requesting your position on the issue of mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods. I further understand that you have not yet responded to this inquiry.

The purpose of this e-mail is to formally express my concern to you about the issue of unlabeled genetically engineered foods and request that you establish a policy position on this controversial agricultural method.

Please respond to The Campaign's inquiry about your position on whether or not you will support legislation to require the mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods. If you have misplaced that mailing from The Campaign, you may call them at 425-771-4049 and request a duplicate mailing.

As you may be aware, the issue of genetically engineered foods has become a global "lightening rod" issue. Many countries have banned these products from even being grown. Dozens of other leading industrialized nations have mandatory labeling requirements including all the European Union nations, Japan, China, Russia, Australia and New Zealand.

The vast majority of Americans also want labeling. A recent report funded by the USDA found that 89% of the American public feel genetically engineered foods should be required to be labeled. Only 10% felt labeling should not be required.

My vote for president in the 2008 elections may be determined by this issue. Therefore, I encourage you to support the will of the vast majority of the American public and support our right to know if our foods have been genetically engineered.

Please respond to my inquiry in addition to contacting The Campaign. Thank you!
